This just in from Sydney Morning Herald… “SHARKS five-eighth Trent Barrett will not make himself available for selection for the end-of-season International Quad Series after being ruled out for the rest of the NRL season because of a cheekbone fracture”.

"Despite having not played a test for Australia since 2005, Barrett’s class and talent have been a telling point in the Sharks positioning themselves for a shot at the wooden spoon in 2009. Other form players, such as Mark O’Meley, Carl Webb and Braith Anasta have also declared themselves unavailable for the end-of-season International Series due to injury. Eric Grothe Jnr has stated he too is unavailable because he thinks he might be able to get a gig with his band, Three Day Grothe, at the Parramatta Leagues Club that weekend.
Brett Kimmorley has declared himself available and ready to play. Daniel Holdsworth has also declared himself available."

Steve Folkes has also confirmed he will redeclare himself available for any and all future NRL coaching vacancies, including his own in the unlikely/likely event he be hired/fired again. Hammertime

ReplyDeleteHmmm - now that I think of it, Barrett clearly wants to get picked, and is invoking the Jamie Lyon reverse psychology strategy. It might just pay off. The selectors will pick him just to make a point to Ricky Stuart. Crafty devil.
ReplyDeleteAnother insightful comment from SER8... I thought the same thing when Kimmorley kept putting his hand up before Origin (and thought at the same time, that will never work). Yet lo and behold, the NSW selectors, led by LD (whiteout tool in hand), struck out the "never to play Origin again" line that had been there since the 2005 pass and reinstated Kimmorley in the role he was born to play - the key tackle-maker in the 2009 Blues. Now, if only we had a halfback we'd be set... GM
